Among all the options we have today to
surf the Internet, Google Chrome is the most popular browser. It is
undoubtedly the one that houses the most users on the different platforms. It
does not matter if we are using a mobile device or a desktop computer. There
are many options it offers. A host of extensions and tools to further
improve usability. And yes, security and privacy are also present. The
browser itself has options so that we can navigate without our data being
compromised. Today we are going to focus on the differences
between the guest mode and the incognito mode that Google
Chrome has.
Differences between guest mode and incognito mode in Google Chrome
These two modes
are different, although they can sometimes be confused. They are available by
default in the browser . We don't need to install any
additional tools on Google Chrome.
Keep in mind that
the two are different and temporary ways of using the browser . That
is why we do not have all the options available, nor the accessories. For
example, if we enter incognito mode, the extensions will not be available. We
will not be able to make use of them. They are two modes that are aimed at
improving user privacy and offering something different.
What is guest mode
The guest
mode is available in Google Chrome as an option to browse. Basically
it is a possibility that we have to navigate when we leave the laptop to
someone. We could say that it is as if a temporary user is created and all
data is deleted once we close the browser.
The browsing activity is not recorded . Also, the person who is using the guest mode of Google Chrome will not be able to access the browser history. Nor could it modify any browser settings.
Therefore, the Google
Chrome guest mode is ideal if we are going to leave the
computer to someone. In this way our accounts would not be started, they
would not be able to access the history and neither do anything with the
browser settings. A good idea also if a child is going to take the computer
and we do not want him to deconfigure anything from the browser and then not
work.
Although no
browsing data or cookies are saved, the files that we download in that session
are kept.
How to access guest mode
Accessing Google Chrome's guest
mode is a simple
process. We have to open the browser and click on the icon of our user,
top right. Later we give Open Guest Window.
We will see that a
new window opens. This window is totally different from what we are used
to. The extensions or tools that we have installed will not appear here. It
just comes out a clean window, with nothing, where you can navigate.
What is the incognito mode of Google Chrome
The second mode
that we have available in Google Chrome is incognito . It
is an option that we can find in most modern browsers. It has similarities
with the previous one, although it is not the same.
With the incognito
mode of Google Chrome we can navigate without our data
being recorded. Neither the browsing history and the downloads we make
will be deleted as soon as we close the window.
It should be
mentioned that the extensions or tools that we have installed in
the browser will not work. We will not be able to save logins.
Neither the browsing history nor the names of users that we
put, cookies, forms, etc. will be saved . However,
the activity will continue to be visible to the sites we visit, as well as to
our Internet provider.
This time we will be able to access our bookmarks and browsing history. But that does not mean that everything we do from that moment on is recorded.
How to enter incognito mode in Google Chrome
To enter incognito
mode in Google Chrome we can go to the three-point menu,
top right, and click Open a new incognito window . A new
window will open. We will see that it is very different from the one we
know.
In short, both the
guest mode and the incognito mode in Google Chrome can improve browsing
privacy. They are two options that come standard in the Google browser. We
do not need to install any plugins to be able to use it.
Both privacy and security are two fundamental aspects for users. That is why we recommend taking certain measures very seriously to prevent our team from being compromised. A good idea is to have security programs and tools. Even in the browser itself we can install extensions to combat the possible threats that come through browsing.
Why Private or Incognito Mode Doesn't Protect
We have seen what
the differences are between private or incognito mode in Google Chrome. However,
we must indicate something that is common in both cases: they do
not protect our security . It must be taken into
account that it will be necessary to take certain precautions when surfing the
net, in order to maintain security at all times and avoid attacks.
The private
or Incognito will not prevent us click on a malicious link
and unload malware. Nor will it prevent us from logging in through a link
that we have seen on a third-party site or any other threat that we suffer when
browsing the Internet. Therefore, to be really protected we are not going
to depend on this function.
To navigate
safely we will have to have software that protects us. For
example, you have to have a good antivirus that can help you avoid the entry of
malware, keep your computer updated and thus avoid possible vulnerabilities
and, most importantly, common sense to avoid making mistakes such as
downloading malicious files or opening an insecure link.
Therefore, we can
say that the incognito mode of browsers, whether it is Google Chrome or any
other, will not really improve our security. It will not prevent malware
from entering the system or stealing passwords through multiple methods. We
are going to have to maximize the reliability of the system.
