We have already seen the level of performance to be expected from the new mobile graphics cards.
AMD CEO Lisa Su took the virtual stage
at CES to introduce not only the company's latest generation of notebook CPUs,
but also to offer a preview of AMD's next range of mobile GPUs.
Although its name is
unknown, we already know that the new range of GPUs will be based on the
powerful RDNA 2 architecture, which is used in the RX 6000 series desktop and
also in custom GPUs for both the Xbox Series X and the PS5 .
Considering the
great performance of desktop GPUs, gamers expect a lot from mobile GPUs. Although
we still do not have much information about the new range, its performance and
possible launch have been advanced.
Based on the RDNA 2
architecture, the reference mobile GPU is capable of running DiRT 5 at the most
powerful settings and producing 60fps performance with 1440p resolution
enabled. It is very impressive, although some doubts arise.
The good news is that’s
we should know more about the mobile AMD Radeon range relatively soon, as Lisa
Su advanced that we will find them in gaming laptops released
during the first half of 2021 (the new Nvidia , however, will arrive
this January).
Mobile GPUs aside,
it was a mostly laptop-centric event. AMD also announced a variant of the
Ryzen 5000 series for ultralight laptops, which would arrive in February with
improved performance and the ability to run games in 1080p without any
problems.
